Chemical formula of Alumina is Al2O3, which is the main component of bauxite. It has rich bauxite resources in our country. 1.main ingredient of ruby, sapphire is aluminum. It shows different color because of containing other impurities. The ruby is red because of containing chromium oxide, and the sapphire is blue because of iron oxide.
2.In the main component of bauxite, content of alumina is the highest.
3.alumina makes aluminum not easily corrode in the air. Pure aluminum is easy to have reaction with oxygen in the air. This produces a dense aluminum oxide film covering the aluminum surface. This layer of aluminum oxide film prevent the aluminum from being oxidized.
4.The aluminum is a good conductor of electricity and heat. Crystal form of alumina is suitable as abrasive and cutting tools because of the high hardness.
5.The alumina powder is often used as a vehicle for chromatography.
6.In 2004 August, scientists in the US 3M company developed alloy which consists of Al and Rare Earth, it is called as reinforced glass of transparent alumina.
